The Best Books on Songwriting, the Music Business, and Creativity

Looking  for some reading on songwriting? Or maybe you’re searching for the perfect stocking stuffer for that songwriter in your life? Here’s a collection of books I highly recommend. They’re either books I’ve read cover to cover, keep as a reference, or are considered staples in any songwriter’s library. Books are listed in three categories – Books on Songwriting, Books on the Music Business, and Books on Creativity.

A quick disclaimer, yes, these are mostly affiliate links. Using affiliate linking is a nice, un-obtrusive way for this blog to bring in some income, as opposed to utilizing Google ads or other distracting elements. These are all great book suggestions. In college we actually used All you need to know about the music business as our textbook for one of my music industry courses. I should go back and reread it. I also have The Artist’s Way but haven’t read it yet. I might give it a chance now.

Yes, love both those books! And I love that you used All You Need to Know About the Music Business as a textbook! It’s always been such a great read. That book is probably in it’s like, 15th edition by now, I love that they keep updating it. :)

And The Artist’s way will change you life. If you struggle at all with self doubt, this book gives you so much grace. A friend gave me the workbook version and it’s just amazing.
