Introducing Song Feedback + Mini-Goal Coaching!

Guess what fam? Remember when I asked you to tell me what products and services you’d like to see from SongFancy in 2018?

You spoke, I heard you, and now I’m SO STOKED to announce this:

feedback is coming

Coming April 2018

But because we’re a little bit extra over at SongFancy, this is going to be more than just feedback.

Because 1 song is only part of the bigger picture for you the songwriter, I want to offer mini-goal coaching alongside it.

Every song submitted gets thoughtful feedback, and actionable advice to help you reach our songwriting goals.

I want to help you love your songs and love your process. I want to help you reach your long and short term goals, and to write the best songs you can. So it made perfect sense to pair these two things together! Song feedback + Goal coaching = helping you orient yourself on your journey as a songwriter.

I’m putting it all together as we speak, but here’s a little bit on what you can expect when you submit a song for feedback and goal coaching:

Thoughtful Song Feedback

We’ll cover these aspects of your song:

  • Concept
  • Lyrics
  • Melody
  • Music
  • Structure

You’ll also have an opportunity to ask specific questions about your song. Have you always wondered about that chorus? Maybe you want to know if your instincts are good when it comes to the bridge direction? Ask away!

Mini-Goal Coaching

One song is just a small piece of your overall growth as a songwriter. I want to help you come up with habits, strategies, and exercises to get you to your long term goals.

I’ll ask you all about your relationship with songwriting. You tell me where you’re going, and I’ll give you my best advice to start taking the first steps to getting you there.

“What does the feedback process look like?”

When you purchase a Feedback + Mini-Goal Coaching consultation, you’ll get access to an upload form and goal setting survey.

Fill out the form, upload your lyric sheet (.pdf) and your recording (.mp3).

From there, I’ll listen to your song, read your responses, and come up with a written sheet of feedback and links to resources/advice to help you move forward with your growth as a songwriter.

Save the response, print it out, and keep it near by whenever you need direction!

“I’ve never had my songs critiqued before, is this going to help me?”

Absolutely! In fact, this is a fabulous for beginning songwriters. I pride myself on being honest, thoughtful, and constructive. I want to build you up, point out your strengths, and break down your struggles. I’ll talk openly about what you can do to make the song better so you can truly grow. You’re not going to be thrown to the wolves, here!

“When will I get my feedback?”

Depending on volume, anywhere between 1-3 weeks.

Song Feedback + Goal Coaching = Customized, actionable ways for you to truly grow as a songwriter

Stay tuned, y’all! More to come. Do you have questions? Ask in the comments! Suggestions on what you’d like to see in your consultation? Let me know in the comments!

    Hi Sarah–

I have been writing ” lyrics” for a while ( a long time..) and after the 10th person said DO something with this ! I decided to take the leap. I figured 2 things will happen. Both options are survivable. ; )

    1) You will find out you suck as badly as you think you do
    2) Someone can coach you how to suck less….

I do play some piano and guitar ( by ear ) so I have a general feel for the direction I want the song to go…

You have such a kind face- so I figured this might be a good place to start– toe in the water so to speak. I would love to learn more about your Song Feed back– thanks !

Now I am off to listen to your music ; )

      Hi Denise!

It can be scary to put yourself out there, but trust me – songwriting is is 90% perspiration! Working with a coach or even just getting occasional feedback on songs is how you grow your chops. :) That and writing all the time!

Typically the only people who “suck” are those who aren’t willing to puting the effort and who think they don’t need to improve. ;)

The best writers spend their whole lives learning! And a lot of that involves “checking in” with their mentors, peers, and cowriters for feedback.

I hope that helps! Are you on the SongFancy email list? Sign up here if you’re not and you’ll get an email soon with more into on these feedback sessions! <3

      Write on!

        Hi Sarah–

Yikes ! I just realized that the 5 songs in 5 days is with music-and performing ? I thought it was just lyrics….not sure I can do this now.

I have been listening to your original music — first off you have a beautiful voice…you just kinda swing it around effortlessly. I LOVED What Does Not Kill Me ( Better run) . He’s not mine, Us Someday, Drinking Game. It is all really really good. How long have you been writing?
Let me know if I can still participate in the 5 songs 5 days Challenge

        Thanks !

Hi Denise! WOW this comment totally got past my radar! Sorry for the late response!

You can absolutely still participate in the 5/5 if you only write lyrics! I’d love to invite you to the next session – it starts next week(!!) April 2-6. :) You can sign up here: I only allow *contest entries* that are lyrics+music, but you can totally participate in the challenge side with just lyrics :)

I’m humbled you’ve been listening to my music!! <3 Thank you for checking out all those videos! I've been writing about 15 years now, semi-professionally since I was about 15.

If you email me I'll send you a free download of my EP. I hope you like it! <3

Ok good… I am looking forward to it. ; )

  • Jeff Hanke

Thank you!! I know this is the piece that I’m missing in a big way as a beginning/wannabe intermediate songwriter. Love the mini goal setting aspect too.

    • Sarah Spencer

Fantastic! I hope this serves you well! More info to come, you’ll be getting emails as I roll this out :)

      • Jeff Hanke

Cool!! I’ve been contemplating either a songwriting class or even a coach for a bit just to get me on the right track. I’m one unfortunately that tends to slide a bit when I don’t have deadlines or accountability…
